RevCon: awakening a youth conference

Church of the King's annual youth event had a theme, a scripture, and a lot of ideas. What it needed was one look.

The chaos

Church of the King has always run a summer youth event. It used to be a multi-church camp. After COVID it became RevCon, a conference that shuttles students from local campuses to the main campus in Mandeville, Louisiana. This year's theme was "awakening," and they had a scripture and a pile of mood boards, but the mood boards pulled in every direction.

The clarity

I threw spaghetti at the wall on purpose. I made a lot of concepts fast, and then we worked together to whittle them down to the one that said what the conference was trying to say. We landed on a grainy eye, awake and staring, inside a gritty Y2K grunge aesthetic.

Where it showed up

The look ran across the screens, posters, and print materials. It was strongest in the merch, where the 2000s vibe was something students actually wanted to wear.

The result

Two events, a junior high camp and a high school camp, and hundreds of students came through. The speakers and what God did in those rooms were the point, and the creative played a big part in setting the tone. [Add a quote from a pastor or staff member.]
